We sent our video yesterday to the RR Show and here is what they had to say:

“Thank you so much for that video – it really was so fantastic and I would love to be able to use your video. 
My producer said that everything looked great from the first video, and if we could get shots of the kids cracking the eggs – that would be really cute. Just the more we can incorporate eggs, the better. “

SOOOO….we are filming again tonight with some of our Alumi Lil Chefs from last year – we are making a Tarragon Egg Salad!

Rachael’s Moms Baked Apples

This week we will be coring and stuffing apples for you to bake at home.  The recipe list currants – sorry to say that my local supermarket did not have them – so raisins it will be (and of course there will be no nuts, as in all of our recipes)

Rachael Ray Filming

Whew!  It has been one crazy week!  On Monday night I put together a power point presentation with Carol to submit it to one of the producers from the Rachael Ray show that Carol’s sister in law knows – well needless to say – they loved our idea and want PICTURES! of what we are doing in cooking club this year!!!!!

So on Thursday and Friday of this week – we will be filming our cooking club classes while we cook this week Rachael Ray recipe!  It will be edited and sent to Rachael Ray’s producers for review….not sure where this will take us – but it sure is fun cooking with your kids!

Here we come Rachael Ray – our first recipe!

I just completed my lesson plan for our first recipe creation from “Rachael Rays Yum-O!  The Family Cookbook”

The first fall cooking class starts this week – I have 16 Itty Bitties as Rach calls them (or Lil Chefs like we call them) on Thurs and 13 Lil Chefs on Friday.  We are going to make Lady Bug Pizzas – a simple version of an English muffin pizza except – the english muffin is spread with pesto – topped with shredded cheese, a tomato slice, and chopped black olives for lady bug spots.  Of course we made home made pesto in class minus the nuts!

My 3 year old (who takes the class) heard the recipe today and said “eww I will not eat a bug!” hence my search tonight on the internet was for countries who eat bugs – and there is even a “Eat a Bug Cookbook” from a man in Seattle – don’t worry we will not be cooking thru that one anytime soon!  But many people eat crickets, grasshoppers, beetles – they claim they have quite a bit of protein and raising them is better on our environment then raising cows, chickens – and it takes less space to produce them….a nice thought, huh!

My story – Chef Jenn and the Ittie Bittie Chef’s

Hi – I am Chef Jenn!  I teach a preschool cooking class – my Itty Bittie Chef’s are 3,4, and 5 years old.  This past summer I read the book “Julie & Julia” by Julie Powell – I did not see the movie – but have heard it is great!  This book has inspired me to change my Cooking curriculum at the preschool where I work and cook through a cookbook – I choose “Racheal Ray – Yum-O!  The Family Cookbook”

“Racheal Ray (aka Rach) created the program “yum-O!” – it is an organization that empowers kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking by teaching families to cook,  by feeding hungry kids, and by funding cooking education”  This has been our philosphy at the preschool where I teach – we started cooking in 2007 and have not stopped since!
